Wealth is rarely built alone, and it is almost never talked about enough. In too many Black families, money is something we earn and spend in private. The strategy, the mistakes, the wins and the language of ownership don't get passed down, and the gap shows. In the Federal Reserve's 2022 Survey of Consumer Finances, the median white family held about $285,000 in wealth. The median Black family held about $44,900.1
The Black Wealth Dinner was built to change that conversation where it starts: at the table. Presented by Gentlemen's Factory in partnership with JPMorgan Chase, the evening brought leaders, professionals, entrepreneurs and friends of the Factory to our home at 1082 Fulton Street in Bedford-Stuyvesant, Brooklyn, under a theme printed on the sign at the bar: Discussing Generational Wealth.
Arrival: wine, whiskey and a warm welcome
The night opened outdoors. Guests gathered on the heated patio for wine and whiskey, a cocktail bar ran in front of the Gentlemen's Factory Bed-Stuy wall, and a humidor of cigars sat open for anyone who wanted one. Before anyone talked about wealth, people talked to each other. That is the point. The relationships in a room like this are part of the wealth.

A table set with intention
Inside, one long table ran the length of the room: candlelight, gold chargers, gold napkins and a black menu card at every seat, each finished with a Gentlemen's Factory pin. We seat guests at a single table on purpose. Nobody is at the "back" of a conversation about the future.
Opening remarks
Jeff Lindor, founder and CEO of Gentlemen's Factory, opened the evening with a welcome to the room and to our partners at JPMorgan Chase. Remarks and presentations from partners and guests followed, and the culinary team behind the menu stepped out to greet the table.

Dinner and discussion
Then the room did what a good dinner table does. Plates came out, wine was poured tableside, and the conversation moved from the front of the room to every seat. Generational wealth is not one topic. It is homeownership and business ownership, investing and insurance, estate planning and financial literacy, and the courage to talk about all of it with the people closest to you.

After dinner
The best conversations rarely end when dessert does. Long after the plates were cleared, guests were still swapping numbers, making introductions and planning what comes next in the lounge and along the bar.
Why it matters
At Gentlemen's Factory, we believe wealth is built through ownership, information and relationships, and that Black and Brown men deserve all three. Dinners like this one create the room. Our year-round work keeps it going: the Wealth & Ownership cohort turns these conversations into a plan, and our research on Black men in America keeps the numbers honest.
We are grateful to JPMorgan Chase for partnering with us on this evening, and to every guest who brought their questions, their experience and their candor to the table.
