Programs address immediate needs. Institutions must also ask why those needs exist.
The Gentlemen's Factory research and policy platform is our home for research on Black men in America — examining the economic, social and institutional conditions shaping their lives, including employment, wages, wealth, education, health, justice, technology, family, leadership and civic participation. A core focus is Black male economic mobility: what helps it, what blocks it, and what institutions can do about it.
Our goal is not to produce research that sits on a shelf. We want data and lived experience to inform how we design our cohorts and institutional programs, how institutions make decisions and how communities understand the challenges and opportunities facing men.
